Details: 1963 Chrysler Imperial. We call this car ´Mr. Drysdale´, after the Beverly HIllbillies TV sitcom from the 1960s where the Beverly Hills banker also drove stately Imperials. This car gets thumbs-up where ever we go. The Imperial was designed by Virgil Exner and hailed by Chrysler as ´The Finest Car America Has Yet Produced.´ A very bold statement considering some of the masterpieces produced from Packard, Cadillac, and countless others. But year after year the Imperial lived up to the name.The 1963 models saw the split grille disappear again, replaced by a cluster of chromed rectangles, and the taillights were now inside the rear fenders, in ordinary fashion, for the first time. In addition, the designers redesigned the rooflines of the two-door hardtops, giving them a similar appearance to the four-door models. 1963 models were the last Virgil Exner--styled Imperials, however Elwood Engel began applying some of his own touches to them. Only 14,121 Imperials of all types were produced for 1963.This car is a great driver. WIth the rectangular shaped steering wheel (which definitely takes some getting used to--it´s cool!) and push button transmission and parking lever, it´s a real pleasure. The exterior top half was professionally repainted in September 2011. The bottom half was in very nice original condition. Chrome and trim are great. The interior was professionally restored in Spring 2011--new headliner and upholstery to complement the original door panels and carpeting. There are few blemishes here and there, but nothing major. The car presents exceptionally well and the price can´t be beat.
